Jesus is our elder brother who helps us grow to become like him—“a child, a man, and then a spirit.” Our egos resist such growth, and urge us to remain dependent on him for fulfillment of our specific requests. Thus we wish Jesus to infantilize us, never allowing into awareness our equality with him as spirit—God’s Son as He created him. By recognizing our childish littleness, however, we invite Jesus to help us pass through the specific needs of childhood to spiritual maturity, and on to the non-specific Self we share with him. Thus do we, like Jesus, become elder brothers to the world.
