Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
The theme of this workshop derives from the parable in Luke's gospel, sometimes called “The Father's Love,” to better reflect its central message. In A Course in Miracles, the parable is discussed in the section in the text called “The Treasure of God,” which Jesus uses to teach us about our own journey away from our true home and treasure in Heaven, which in the workshop is described as a journey into the far country of individuality and specialness. We took God's creative power and conferred it on ourselves, squandering the power of love in our minds for something of no value. The presentation in the workshop thus begins with the original departure, and then proceeds to describe all of the succeeding dynamics that culminated in the Son's attainment of the identity he desired. The discussion then focuses on the experiences of the Son in his new home with his new identity, and the gradual realization that he made a mistake and would be better off returning to his Father's home. The conditions that would facilitate the process of returning home center on the willingness to see the valuelessness of separate interests, competition, and specialness, and the value of shared interests as a reflection of the all-inclusive nature of our Father's Love. Once Home, He meets us with acceptance, not punishment.
