The workshop focuses on our mind’s two friends: the ego and the Holy Spirit. The one reinforces guilt and fear, while the Other teaches us to forgive: looking at the ego without judgment. A Course in Miracles tells us that purpose is everything, and so our only purpose in choosing the ego as our friend is to reinforce its thought system of separation, which will always hurt us. Yet when the pain becomes too great, we turn to our true Friend Who gently and patiently leads us from the ego’s serious dreams of special relationships that leave us alone and friendless, to the happy dreams that through the Holy Spirit’s gentle laughter awaken us to our Self.
Make no illusion friend, for if you do, it can but take the place of Him Whom God has called your Friend. And it is He Who is your only Friend in truth.
